He died at 6:48 am on Monday, Dewanbagh Darbar Sharif computer section official Md. Al-Amin has confirmed the matter.
According to Dewanbagh Darbar sources, he suffered a stroke at his residence in the morning’s early hours. He was later declared dead at United Hospital in the capital. His body has been taken to Arambagh; the time of his Namaz-e-Janaza has not been fixed yet.
Born on 14 December 1949 in Bahadurpur village of Ashuganj Upazila in Brahmanbaria, Syed Mahbub-e-Khoda Dewanbagi is the youngest of six brothers and two sisters. His father’s name is Syed Abdur Rashid Sardar, and his mother’s name is Syeda Jobeda Khatun. He studied Fazil from Karimia Alia Madrasa in Talshahar.
Dewanbagi Pir received the Bayat from Abul Fazal Sultan Ahmed Chandrapuri, the founder of Chandrapara Darbar in Faridpur. Dewanbagi then married his daughter, Hamida Begum. As a result, he got a ‘caliphate’ from his father-in-law. A few days later, he built a dormitory at Dewanbagh in Narayanganj and introduced himself as a Sufi Samrat. Dewanbagi recently set up a Darbar at 147 Arambagh, Motijheel, Dhaka-1000.
